Abstract Tetrabutylammonium periodate, n Bu 4 NIO 4, is a potent oxygen atom donor to substrates in the presence of catalytic amount of metalloporphyrin under neutral and homogeneous conditions, the results obtained suggesting the formation of oxometalloporphyrin as an active oxidizing intermediate.
