Abstract Chemical transformations have been studied of nitromethyl group in 3, 5-dicyano-1, 4, 4, 6-tetramethyl-2-nitromethyl-1, 4-dihydropyridine (I) brought about by action of acetic acid and/or acetic anhydride, diazomethane, and phosphorus trichloride and giving also the products VIII and IX of intramolecular reaction with the neighbouring cyano group.
