Secondary alcohols react more slowly than primary, and base-promoted loss of oxidizing agent interferes. When 5-dodecanol (0.5 mol equiv) is oxidized as above, the conversion is only 30% after 23 h. Cyclohexanol is oxidized slowly at 25" C, with only 80% conversion (79% yield of cyclohexanone) after 4 h at 25 OC. The secondary benzylic alcohol, 1-phenyl-I- ethanol, reacts
