A wide variety of aminoalkylsilanes (R3SiCR2NHR') are rearranged to the isomeric alkylaminosilanes (R3SiNR'CHR2) by traces of n-butyllithium. It is shown that an equilibrium exists between the isomeric amide ions (N-) and carbanions (C-) which are involved as intermediates in the rearrangement.
