General procedure: 5a To a freshly prepared solution of 70% EtOH in H 2 O and 0.77 g of KOH (ca 1.1 eq) at room temperature was added 3-methoxybenzenethiol (1.43 g, 10 mmol) 11, and the solution was cooled to 0°C. A solution of the 12c (2.3 g, 10 mmol) in EtOAc was added slowly.
