The aminomethylation of Ia-d was accomplished through the use of the Mannich condensa- tion reaction. When diethylamine and formaldehyde were reacted with la-d, an aminomethyl group was introduced in the open a position of the furan ring, and 2-aryl-5-dimethylamino- methylfuran chlorohydrates (IIa-d) were formed at a 42%-86% yield. ...
