Synthesis of α,-α-dideuterated-β-amino acids has been reported earlier where the available α-amino acids have been modified. 12 However, this method has a disadvantage that amino acids which are available commercially can only be used. The synthetic scheme becomes multi-step if one chooses to synthesize α-amino acids first and then modify them to get the deuterated derivatives. ...
