The regio-and stereoselectivity in the solvomercuriation and intramolecular alkoxymercuriation of several cyclic olefinic alcohols were examined. The regioselectivity is controlled mainly by electronic factors, while the stereoselectivity is controlled by steric factors as well as electronic ones.
