OBZ OH than the cis isomer 4a, whereas the trans diol 3b has as usual a smaller Rf value than its cis isomer 4b. The remaining steps to 6b were performed essentially as described in the 1iterat~ re. l~ For the synthesis of 13b, dibenz [a, h] anthracene was hydrogenated in the presence of sodium in boiling n-pentanol in 65% yield to 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14- decahydro-benz [a, h] anthracene (7).
