Abstract Optically active 2-and 3-methylsulfinylindoles 2 and 3 have been isolated from the red alga Laurencia brongniartii. The structure of 2, and hence 3 by comparison, was determined by X-ray and revealed a pair of hydrogen-bonded molecules possessing a center of inversion.
