p-Quinone methides were found to be excellent electrophilic cyclization initiators for the formation of six-membered rings. Cyclizations to form five-and seven-membered rings were also studied. Oxidation of 2, Bdisubstituted phenols with AgzO afforded the corresponding quinone methides.
