The title reactions proceed exothermically in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. Thiophosgene is an intermediate in this conversion, and its phase transfer catalytic transformation into carbon disulfide and trithiocarbonate can be demonstrated. Perchlorornethanethiol/sodium sulfide and a PT catalyst yield thiophosgene too. Activated vicinal dibrornides were debrominated by Na, S/catalyst.
