摘要

VI11 o-Carboxycinnamic acid (I) prepared by the oxidation of@-naphthol using peracetic acid, was reduced by means of the Schwenk procedure4 to give p-(o-carboxyphenyl)- propionic acid (11) in excellent yield. Reduction of I1 using ethereal lithium aluminum hydride gave the expected diol (III), B which was obtained pure in relatively low yield.
