(S)-(−)-Ispenol 1′ and its antipode 1″ were synthesized from (S)-(+)-leucine 10 and its antipode 10′, respectively. This established the S-configuration of the naturally occurring (-)-ipsenol. Only the natural (S)-(−)-enantiomer was biologically active on Ips grandicollis. ...
