1, 6-Anhydro-, 9-~-gulopyranose (II).-A preliminary ex-periment with 1.1 g. of an old, impure, levorotatory D-gulose sirup showed that heating with acid, followed by treatment with alkali to destroy the unchanged sugar, and deionization, yielded a non-reducing, dextrorotatory solution; concentration of the solution left a very small amount of sirup that crystallized after several months in a desiccator.
