Abstract The reactions of o-arsinophenoles with some carboxylic acid derivatives were studied. With imidoyl chlorides the aromatic 1, 3-benzoxarsoles are obtained. The reaction proceeds via a primary attack of the arsino group. The spectroscopic data of the benzoxarsoles are discussed and compared with those of benzofurane, benzoxazole and corresponding NH-heterocycles.
