Abstract The conversion of 4-O-alkylfuroquinolines into N-alkylfuroquinolones and other reactions of the furoquinoline alkaloids are studied with the aid of NMR spectra. The NMR spectra of isoacronycidine and several other N-alkylquinolones show a sharp peak in the range δ 2.0-4.0, attributed to strongly retained water molecules.
