The 2, 4, 6-triisopropylbenzyltrimethylammonium ion was rearranged by sodium amide in liquid ammonia to form an exo-methylenecyclohexadieneamine that was rearranged thermally to a P-arylethylamine. The exo-methyleneamine was decomposed by acid to form an aromatic hydrocarbon and an aromatic amine, the relative yields of these products depending upon the strength of the acid.
