Abstract: Fluorenes substituted in the 9 position with CH, O-, CH3-,(CH3) 2CH-, H2N-, and HO-react with potassium methoxide and aromatic nitro compounds in oxygen-free methanol. The reaction products are dimers, diphenylene-N-arylnitrones, trisubstituted hydroxylamines, mono-and disubstituted azoxy compounds, and dehydrogenation products.
