本品是饲料营养强化剂，在L-蛋氨酸存在下其作用和生物效价与DL--蛋氨酸相同。畜禽缺乏蛋氨酸，会引起发育不良、体重减轻、肝肾功能减弱、肌肉萎缩、毛皮变质等。
