Abstract

5-Carbomethoxy-5, 5-diphenylpentanoic Acid.-A solution of 73.4 g.(0.225 mole) of methyl 2, 2-diphenyladipate in 200 ml. of methanol was heated under reflux with vigorous stirring. After dropwise addition of 117.5 ml. of 2 N NaOH (0.235 mole) over 1 hr., the solution was refluxed for an addit, ional 2 hr.
