Abstract
H z I I1 provide a possible means of observing the relative resultanteffect of moving k€ un&maLgmup from one tertiary carbon atom to the other. In the absence of an accepted mechanism for the reaction of the tertiary alcohols with hydrochloric acid, they are compared graphically by the change in concentration of olefin and alkyl chloride with time.
