Abstract

Summary Reactions of P-propiolactone with Grignard reagents give mixtures of beta- halopropionic acids and vinyl ketones. The possible individual reactions with the components of the Grignard reagent are described. With benzylmagnesium chloride, phenylbutyric acid is a major reaction product.
