Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a series of R-substituted mercapto-, sulfinyl-, sulfonyl-, his-(mercapto)-acetic acids (where R= C6H5-, p-CH3C6H4-, m-CH (&H4-, p-(CH3) 3CC6H4- , p-C1C6H4-, p-\ SOzCsH4-) and some related cpmpounds are reported. The acid-catalyzed oxidation-reduction cleavage of a-sulfinyl acids, a-sulfinyl ketones and 8-disulfoxides has been investigated and a mechanism is proposed
