Abstract
The coordinated olefin in dicationic Pt2+ and Pd2+ complexes reacts with β-dicarbonyl compounds. In the presence of a base, stable metal− alkyl derivatives are obtained; otherwise a catalytic hydroalkylation reaction is obtained, whose rate-determining step is the protolytic cleavage of the metal− carbon bond.
