Abstract
In the case of organic hydroxy compounds, Smith and Bryant3 recently have developed a rapid and precise method for the quantitative determination of primary and secondary hydroxyl groups. Their method consists essentially in modifying the usual acetic anhydridepyridine acetylation mixture by the substitution of acetyl chloride for the anhydride, the acetyl chloride being a more reactive acetylating agent.
