Abstract

Abstract Regio-and chemoselective transfer hydrogenation of isoquinolinium salts catalyzed by [Cp* RhCl 2] 2 using HCOOH-Et 3 N (5: 2) as a hydrogen source was realized. A variety of N-methyl-and N-benzyl-1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids were obtained in high yields by the present catalyst system.
