Abstract

A large number of aryl sulfinic acids have been prepared'but few of them have been converted into the corresponding acid chlorides, while the behavior of the latter toward amino compounds has received very little attention. Hilditch and Smiles2 obtained benzenesulfinyl chloride in rectangular plates that melted at 38'. Braun and Kaisers may have obtained this product as a solid, but they recorded no melting point.
