Abstract
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (polyarenes) are widely distributed environmental pollutants many of which exhibit carcinogenic activity. 1 However, methods for the synthesis of polyarenes have failed to keep pace with the rapidly expanding research interest in the chemistry and biological properties of molecules of this class.
