Abstract

The reduction of esters to the corresponding alcohols is an important reaction in organic synthesis. Compared with traditional procedures using stoichiometric amounts of metal hydride reagents (eg LiAlH4),[1] the catalytic hydrogenation of esters to alcohols, which generates no waste, is attractive environmentally and economically [Eq.(1)].
