Abstract

A basic tenant of heterocyclic chemistry2 is that pyridine-like3 nitrogen atoms cause the activation of ring C-methyl groups toward proton loss. In its simplest examples, 2-and 4- methylpyridine undergo a range of useful reactions which are initiated by this process.
