After this investigation had been completed, CA Miller and LM Long, THIS JOURNAL, 73, 4895 (1951), reported on the preparation of ethyl p-cyano-B,,% diphenylpropionate by the alkylation of diphenylacetonitrile with ethyl hromoacetate and sodium ethoxide.
