Abstract

The isolation of an isocyanate from urethane is complicated by the tendency of formed isocyanate (RNCO) and alcohol (RlOH) to recombine easily as shown in the equilibrium reaction (eq 1). The absence of a reverse addition results in easy isolation of an isocyanate.
