Abstract

Abstract: The pyrolysis of alkyl thiolsulfinates is shown to afford alkanesulfenic or alkanethiosulfoxylic acids which may be trapped in good yields with acetylenes giving a,@- unsaturated sulfoxides or thiolsulfinates, respectively. In the absence of trapping agents the sulfenic acids can undergo a variety of reactions including dehydration to thiolsulfinate and exchange (via nucleophilic displacement) with thiolsulfinate leading to a scrambling ...
