Abstract
Results Nitrodiphenyl Ethers (l).-Two types of reaction were observed on photolysis of the 4- nitrodiphenyl ethers in aqueous pyridine:(a) displacement of nitrite by pyridine, and (b) displacement of 4-nitrophenoxide by pyridine. The latter reaction is unusual in that the nucleophile attacks a benzene ring which does not bear a nitro group. 6 The extent of reaction proceeding via path a was evaluated by the amount of nitrite ion liberated; that ...
