Abstract

A detailed account is given of the generation of the conjugate base of dimethyl sulfoxide (methq~ lsulJinql1 carbanion). The chemical properties and utility of this reagent are illustrated by a number of synthetic applications. For example, a new si-nthetic route to ketones is described.
