Abstract
(i) Carbon dioxide and methane were observed during the reaction. When copper (I1) acetate (a good oxidant for methyl radical9) was used instead of the Fe (II1) salt, under similar conditions, lactone formation was completely prevented and methyl acetate was formed.(ii) When the reaction was carried out in the presence of quinoxaline (a good trap of methyl radicallo), olefin conversion and yields considerably decreased and a significant ...
