Abstract

Bromine as an aromatic substituent is very useful as a site for further substitution, using palladium-catalyzed and other aromatic substitution strategies. However, because the replacement of an aromatic bromine by hydrogen generally requires rather harsh ionic, catalytic, or radical reduction conditions, this group is generally not considered useful as a protecting group.
