Abstract The Meerwein–Ponndorf–Verley (MPV) reaction involves the hydrogen-transfer reduction of a carbonyl compound by an alcohol used as hydrogen donor. The process is catalysed by both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. The latter can be of the acid or basic type.
