Abstract: The syntheses of both N-carbomethoxy-2-phenacylthioimidazoline(8) and its N- methyl salt, N-methyl-N-carbome-thoxy-2-phenacylthioimidazolinium fluoroborate (S), are described. Both substrates can be considered potential models for carboxy-biotin complexes. The reactivity of each of these substrates toward base has been evaluated.
