Abstract

Results Syntheses. Surfactants 1 were prepared as illustrated in Scheme I. Methyl (2)-9- octadecenoate, obtained from 8, was reduced to (Z)-9-octadecen-l-o1, which gave 9. Then 9 was converted into surfactant 10, which on antihydroxylation, followed by ion exchange, yielded 4; subsequent ketalization of 4 gave 1.
