Abstract

RECENTLY (Chem. and Ind., 1948, 158, 543, 732, 782) reasons were listed for believing that, in certain molecules containing it, the azo-grouping is able to adopt a cis-configuration. Similarities between cis-azobenzene and benzocinnoline (Calderbank and Le FCvre, J., 1948, 1949) formed part of the evidence, since in the latter molecule a cis-arrangement is fixed by ring formation.
