Abstract

The reaction of the formic acid/acetic anhydride reaction mixture (FAM ; molar intake ratio 1.0 : 1.0) with phenols in benzene and other solvents at room temperature affords a method of synthesis of a number of pure aryl formates in high yields 2. This procedure, however, is rather time consuming. Hence, we examined the influence of temperature and of catalysts on the esterification of phenols with the formylating mixture.
