Abstract

Several new bis-aryl fumarata were prepared by the Schotten-Baumann method. Attempta to modify the chemical and physical properties of these compounds led to the synthesis of certain new alkyl fumaryl Chlorides by a convenient method. This involved the reaction of maleic anhydride with an alcohol, followed by treatment with thionyl chloride.
