Abstract: trans-1 5, 16-Dimethyldihydropyrene (1) undergoes a thermal rearrangement at around 200 O giving trans-13, 15-dimethyldihydropyrene (2). The structure of 2 has been established from its spectral and chemical properties. The preparation and optical resolution of 4-carboxy-trans-15, 16-dimethyldihydropyrene (18) has been accomplished.
