Abstract
of dihydroxyacetone phosphate, was undertaken. Concurrently, a route for the synthesis of 3, 4-dihydroxybutyl-1-phosphonic acid (8) was sought which would be readily applicable to the incorporation of a radioactive label (tritium) into the molecule. These two routes are described below.
