Abstract

It has been known for some time2p3 that 2, 2'-biquinoline is an excellent reagent for the detection of Cu (I), yielding a purple complex of molecular extinction coefficient 5490, which is quantitatively extractable by isoamyl alcohol. Attenipts to introduce alkyl substituents into the heterocyclic portion of the 2, 2'-biquinoline nucleus have been limited to the synthesis of 3-1nethyl-~ and 4, 4'-dimethyl-2, 2'-biq~ inoline.~ By analogy with substituted 1, lO- ...
