Abstract

A simple, efficient, and environmentally friendly one-step regiospecefic ring opening of strained epoxides with dimercaptoethane as a nucleophile in nearly saturated aqueous potassium carbonate is reported. The synthesized β, β′-dihydroxydithioether compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS spectral studies.
