Abstract: The synthesis of 1, 1, 2-tris (N-methylimidazol-2-yl)-l-hydroxyethane (TIEOH) is described. Reaction of TIEOH with Fe (CI04) 3.10 H, 0 yields, upon workup and crystallization, the high-spin, pseudooctahedral iron (II1) monomer [Fe- (TIEO)(HTIEO)](C104) 2, in which two imidazole ring nitrogen atoms and an alkoxide oxygen atom of both TIEO-and HTIEO ligands are coordinated to the metal.
