Abstract

In order to obtain further data on the effects of bending a benzene ring, the strained hydrocarbon 1, 2-dihydrocyclopent-[jklfluorene (IV) has been prepared and some of its properties have been determined. Synthesis by pyrolysis of the lead salt of I-carboxyfluorene- 9-acetic acid (V) was unsuccessful. However, by approaching the synthesis through a substituted indan and forming the fluorene by decomposition of diazotized o-(1-indany1)- ...
